Special Educational NeedsAs a Church of England School, we can offer each and every child the holistic and emotional care they deserve in order to achieve their full potential. We believe that our core Christian values help us to provide children with the right environment to feel a sense of belonging ad achievement. At Lew Trenchard C of E Primary School, all teachers are teachers of Special Educational Needs. All staff at the school are supported, trained and gather the experienced they need to meet the needs of all the children in our care. Children’s abilities vary over a wide range, and many children have times, temporary or long term, when they may need extra support. Please contact your child’s teacher as the first point of contact if you have any concerns about your child.
Examples may include
- Specific problems with reading, writing or maths
- Emotional or behaviour problems
- A child with learning difficulties
- Visual, speech and language, hearing or mobility problems
- Children with exceptional gifts or abilities
The staff and governors of Lew Trenchard C of E Primary School are committed to ensuring that all SEND pupils reach their full potential, are fully included within the school community and are able to make successful transitions between classes and schools.
- At Lew Trenchard C of E Primary School, we believe it is essential to work in partnership with families. As a small school, we try to keep in regular contact with our families and value an ‘open door’ policy should you ever need to discuss any problems or concerns with us.
SEND pupils at Lew Trenchard C of E Primary School will have their own provision map, detailing targets and the teaching support they receive. This will be shared with families by your child’s class teacher on a termly basis.
The school access to a family practitioner and play therapist, for the children that have been recognised as needing these services.
On occasions, it is necessary to engage other professionals to work in partnership with the schools to meet pupil need. This could include individuals from the Local Authority, Health and Social Services. This also includes writing an Early Help Assessment to ensure that every pupil receives the best possible provision and outcomes. Liz Davy (Head of School) is the Lead Practitioners at the school to coordinate the Early Help Assessment process.
