Welcome
Brentor is our reception class which is situated with Yes Tor (Preschool) creating our Foundation Stage Unit. Our teachers are Mrs Abbott-Bray and Mrs Broadbridge, alongside our amazing foundation stage team.
In Brentor we have a focus on learning through play and small group focus sessions. All our learning is practical based allowing children to use concrete objects to explore and expand their knowledge. In school we encourage all our children to develop their skills to become responsible, independent, resilient, collaborative and reflective in all they do. Our children are encouraged to accept mistakes as part of their learning journey and thrive when challenged.
Our Learning
Our theme in Brentor for the Autumn Term is ‘All About Me’.
Please have a look at our Reception Skills and Knowledge Orgainser for this term as it will give you information about which skills we will be embedding, across the curriculum, for this point in the year.
In Maths, we will be following White Rose. We aim to support the main ethos of the EYFS whilst at the same time creating a mathematically rich curriculum. We use a range of resources to help support our children to become practical mathematicians.
Throughout the year we will explore 10 phases which provide a variety of opportunities to develop our understanding of number, shape, measure and spatial thinking.
This term in PE Reception with be focusing on gymnastics and our health. Please could children come dressed in their PE clothing on Wednesday and Thursdays.
Home Learning
Throughout school our main focus is reading and developing a real love to read and listen to a range of books. Therefore our home learning is mainly focused about developing a range of reading and comprehension skills. Children are given a 'Book Bag Book' weekly which is closely matched to phonemes (sounds) which your child has been taught as well as a library book which is there to encourage a love of sharing stories. In conjunction with reading children have daily phonics lessons to promote recognition of sounds they will come across throughout the English language. Therefore please see the link below which supports children and adults to read and say the sound correctly.
