Welcome to Lew Trenchard Church of England Primary School’s website. The school is dedicated to the provision of a stimulating, rigorous, creative and balanced education for its pupils. We firmly believe that it is our duty to bring out the best in all of our children in order to discover and nurture their talents. We believe that staff and pupils alike are to be supported to grow together in wisdom, knowledge and capabilities.
Together we grow in wisdom inspired by the parable of the Good Samaritan - showing compassion to others; upholding dignity; supporting the potential in everyone.
Lew Trenchard seeks to educate its children through the core Christian values demonstrated by the Good Samaritan: of kindness, responsibility and respect, encouraging pupils to live aspirational and fulfilled lives.
We do this by:
- being accountable for all of our actions; (Responsibility)
- demonstrating integrity; (Respect)
- being good stewards of our resources; (Care/Stewardship)
- serving others without self-interest. (Generosity/Compassion/Kindness)
Our focus Christian values are reflected in our teaching, Collective Worship and wider school activities and celebrations. We are guided by the Church of England Vision for Education.
Through accessing a broad and balanced RE curriculum we believe that our Christian focus allows us to offer a place of learning which supports children’s emotional and spiritual development; giving them the skills they need to be ready for life long learning and the challenges this brings.
The pupils, staff and governors of the school are proud of the school with its combination of 19th century history and more modern developments. A school has been on this site since 1842, but extensions have taken place in recent decades and the school now has extensive grounds which include a sports field, woodland area, pond and tyre park.
We provide an environment in which each child’s happiness and well-being is the key to successful learning. Children learn to be self-assured, capable and resilient because of the enthusiasm, energy and passion of the staff and local community.In April 2017 we joined the An Daras Multi-Academy Trust and in doing so we have become part of a group of local schools who share our values with regards to providing a happy, supportive and reflective environment which supports us to improve educational outcomes for the children of our school. Please go to An Daras website to find out more about the vision and aims of the An Daras Multi-Academy Trust: www.andaras.org

- A hall for PE, assemblies, drama etc
- Large playground with range of equipment
- Nature area - woodland and pond area
- Field for play, sport and other outdoor activities
- Healthy school meals cooked on the premises
- Foundation Stage Unit Classroom for ages 2-4 years
Our vision is aligned to the Church of England Vision for Education:
- wisdom, knowledge and skills: enabling discipline, confidence and delight in seeking wisdom and knowledge, and developing talents in all areas of life;
- hope and aspiration: enabling healing, repair and renewal, coping wisely when things go wrong, opening horizons and guiding people into ways of fulfilling them;
- community and living well together: a core focus on relationships, participation in communities and the qualities of character that enable people to flourish together;
- dignity and respect: the basic principle of respect for the value and preciousness of each person, treating each person as a unique individual of inherent worth.
Lived Experience
We link this to the Christian values and beliefs that underpin the teaching and pastoral support that we offer here in our school. We believe in a reflective environment which supports children to attain the skills and empathy required to treat others as they wish to be treated.
Strategic direction and decision making.
At the heart of our decision making at all levels lie the children and their best interests.
Leaders are ambitious for all pupils regardless of backgrounds or starting points.
Improved outcomes – attainment and progress are always part of the Trust and school improvement plans.
Curriculum design
The Trust Capabilities Curriculum leads on how we deliver our aspirational curriculums.
The Visible Learning Status of our schools means that we use evidence-based research to provide CPD and implement changes for improvement. All staff and all levels continue to learn and develop through the comprehensive programme of CPD.
All schools within the Trust go beyond the National Curriculum and incorporate contextual elements to enhance pupils’ sense of belonging. This includes broad, relevant enrichment programmes including use of the Trust Woodlands Activity Centre.
Community and Advocacy
All schools develop a programme of teaching that develops the pupils’ sense of community and how they contribute – this includes but is not limited to charity work, understanding equality and diversity and Climate change and sustainability. Each school has a wealth of support in place for all stakeholders for mental health and well-being ensuring our schools are flourishing communities. This includes Mental Health Practitioners, TIS trained staff, a fully inclusive curriculum and high expectations for all pupils.
